The intent of the premarital counseling track at Compass Bible Church is to prepare Christian couples for the sacred, moral and legal relationship called marriage. To do this we seek to eliminate the potential surprises that most often accompany marriage. It is our prayer that each couple will be successfully equipped to overcome the hurdles and challenges that stand in the way of achieving a godly, contented and Christ-honoring marriage.
Requirements
It will be required of each couple who embarks on premarital counseling at CBC to have a basic understanding of the marriage covenant.
It will also be required that each participant be a follower of Christ who has repented of their sins and put their trust in Christ and is showing evidence of their growth in Christ.
It will also be required that the engaged couple have completed (or be near completion of) the process of prayerfully and thoughtfully deciding that their choice of a marriage partner is, to the best of their knowledge and experience God’s choice for them. This decision should be arrived upon with the counsel and input of other godly Christians. It should be a decision that is based not only on the feelings of their hearts but also on the discernment of their minds.
Appointments
Over the course of six counseling sessions the engaged couple will work with a pastor to grapple with a variety of topics related to marriage. Prior to each session the couple will read a number of books and articles and be expected to complete written assignments which will aid in preparing the couple with the skills necessary for a healthy marriage.
